GENERAL INFORMATION

The “Belgrade” Student Centre was established on 25th November 1968 with the amalgamation of several student halls of residence.
The first student’s hall of residence on the Balkan peninsular, called “King Alexander I” Hall of Residence opened in 1927 followed in 1936 by the opening of the women’s hall of residence called “Queen Maria Hall of Residence” (now called “Vera Blagojevic”). In the years between 1945 and 1978 a further nine halls of residence were opened: ”Rifat Burdžovic” (1948), Studentski grad (1950), ”Mika Mitrovic” (1957), “Patris Lumumba” (1961), ”Košutnjak” (1961), ”Slobodan Penezic” (1964), ”4. April” (1965), ”Žarko Marinovic” (1978) and ”Karaburma” (1978).

The “Belgrade” Student Centre is responsible for the organization and provision of accommodation and food for the students of University of Belgrade. The Centre also provides information and assistance for students seeking part-time work; student exchange visits and has a tourist office. The accommodation available comprises of some 10.100 beds of which 60% are category “A” rooms, while the remaining are hotel category “B” rooms. Seven student restaurants provide 30,000 meals a day and from another 8 distribution points a further 4,000 meals are provided. The Centre currently employs 715 full-time staff and 270 students.

The "Belgrade" Student Centre has four divisions:

  1. Student accommodation
  2. Student restaurants
  3. Commercial restaurants
  4. Special facilities

Conditions and requirements in order to qualify for student accommodation

  • All students who are financed by the Republic Educational Budget of Serbia and all citizens who have no family/private residence in Belgrade.
  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students, who enrol for the winter semester having successfully completed their previous semesters or, who have not failed more than 1 previous year of study or, 4th and 5th year students and absolvents who have not failed more than two succesive years of study.
  • Post-graduate students who are applying for the winter semestar and are unemployed.

Special need students are required to fulfill the requirements listed above and in addition, provide written evidence of temporary or permanent medical conditions.

Documentation required with all applications for student housing;

University examination results ( for 1st year students; high school results)
Documents giving the earnings per capita of parents (for the period 1.1. - 30.6. current year) and a current health certificate.
The documents should be submitted to the special student services of the appropriate faculty, who will also supply all the necessary information leaflets. (Except for 1st year students).

Enrolment dates:

  • For 1st year students from 1.9. do 10.9.2005 (Documents should be submitted at the Karaburma” halls of residence, Mije Kovacevica 7a.
  • For 2nd and 3rd year students who have fullfilled the necessary requirements from 1.9. to 20.9.2005
  • For 4th year students and above or 2nd year post-graduate students
    from 20.9. do 31.10.2005
  • For 1st year post-graduate students from10.10. do 5.11.2005

Selection and procedures for Halls of Residence

Selection will be made using the following criteria:

  • Academic acheivements (average mark, number of subjects passed, which year of study, number of years failed)
  • Date of course completion points (30.7. - 6 points; 30.9. - 3 points; 30.10. - 0 points);
  • Earnings per capita of parents for the period 1st.January to 30th June current year (to 50% of average earnings - 2 points, to 100% - 1 point, above 100% - 0 points).

Following the decisions ranked lists of applicants, for halls of residence, will be published.

Successful applicants are required to sign an agreement with the 'Belgrade' Student Centre, agreeing to and accepting mutual rights and obligations regarding the accommodation.

In order to obtain food and accommodation in the residences or Student Centre, a special 'chip' identity card is issued by the Student Centre. All students funded by the Republic of Serbia Educational Budget have a right to this card. In order to obtain the card, the student must produce his citizens identity card; student book; with a valid stamp for the current semester; a completed application form for the special 'chip' identity card and a receipt for the payment for the preparation of the card.

For the period of 1.7. do 30.9.2003 Houses 1 and 2 of the halls of residence of ”Vera Blagojevic” and ”Kralj Aleksandar I” and ”Patris Lumumba” were made available to international exchange students. Existing students were asked to vacate these premises and other students who wished to stay in other residences, during the summer period, were required to pay a higher market price for the accommodation.
