Student Alliance of Belgrade is a sindicated, independent
student organization which has been actively involved in the
public and academic life of the country since 1936, the fact
which makes it one of the oldest student organizations in
the region.Throughout its long and eventful history, despite
unfavourable circumstances, SAB has managed to articulate
and present its students' attitudes, aspirations, successes,
dissatisfaction and rebellions to academic and general public.
Today SAB is an umbrella organization for a network of the
alliance of students from all Belgarde faculties, higher schools
and student halls of residence, comprising 45 member organizations.
The network includes nearly 120,000 students, so Student Alliance
of Belgrade focuses its activities on the issues most relevant
to students' immediate needs: improvement of study conditions,
representation of students before ministry, university and
faculty authorities; student standard protection; promotion
of extracurricular activities; improvement of inter-faculty
cooperation.
In order to accomplish to accomplish its mission, SAB is
open to exchange of ideas and cooperation with other groups
and organizations which promote similar values and attitudes,
especially with student and youth organizations in this country
and those from other countires.
SAB has five sectors, two services, one computing centre
and the Student magazine editorial.
SAB sectors are:
- Higher education, which deals with the current reform
of education and regime of study;
- Student standard, where the activities are primarily centred
on the quality of student accommodation and student halls
of residence, as well as on the quality of student canteen
services, student credit, stipendium and grants, and accommodation
in the halls of residence;
- Social activities, which deals with cultural events;
International exchange;
Organizational network, which attempts to involve local
alliances into SAB activities and assist local organization
work and schools of higher education. This sector deals with
the regime of study at Belgrade Higher Schools including the
processess of tuition and examinations, the transformation
of higher schools into three-year colleges and study fees.
The services within SAB have been formed in order to perform
their activities more effectively. For that purpose two services
has been established: Marketing and Legal Services.
Student Alliance of Belgrade is the founder of the Student
magazine, which has existed since 1937 as a student magazine,
and is the oldest of its kind in the country. In addition,
within the Student Alliance of the Student City there is a
student television - SCTV.
Some of the most important activities in recent years are
connected to the reform of higher education (our activists
are involved in the work of the rector's office committees
and they offered constructive amandements to the Law on Higher
Education), monitoring of the work of Student Centre (through
the work of the student commission), Freshmen's Evening organization,
organization of humanitarian actions and concerts (Score for
Kosovo, raising help for student in need of health help),
sport event organization, ETC and ISIC card distribution,
organization of a language school and the celebration of a
hundredth anniversay of the University of Belgrade.
